Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is the house easy to locate?
A. Yes, and detailed directions will be provided on receipt of your final balance of payment and security deposit.

Q. Is the house suitable for wheelchair users?
A. Unfortunately there are quite a number of steps and changes of floor level both upstairs and downstairs which sadly probably make the house unsuitable for wheelchairs.

Q. Do babies or infants count within the total permissible number of guests?
A. No, babies and infants under two years are welcome in addition if they share a bedroom with their parents.

Q. What is provided by way of linen, towels etc?
A. All beds are made up prior to arrival, with two pillows, two blankets and a counterpane. Additional blankets are available in the rooms. A bath sheet and hand towel are provided for each guest. We do not supply beach towels. Bed linen and towels will be changed once a week, or more often by prior arrangement. There will be a supply of dish cloths in the kitchen, one for each day of your stay.

Q. What basic items should we bring with us?
A. A full kitchen inventory will be supplied on receipt of your final balance of payment and security deposit. For your convenience the Manor will be stocked in advance with a small supply of all essential consumables, including two loo rolls for each lavatory, hand soap for each basin, kitchen bin liners and black bin bags for rubbish, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, J cloths, a roll of kitchen towel, cling film, tin foil, a box of firelighters, six white candles, matches and a sack of barbecue charcoal.  In addition the kitchen is equipped with an initial supply of olive oil, the commonest herbs and spices, table salt and black pepper.

Q. Where can we buy groceries, newspapers and general supplies?
A. The village of Bradworthy (3 miles) has an excellent independent butcher and several general stores including a Post Office. Holsworthy (6 miles) has a fuller range of shops and a Waitrose supermarket.

Q. Is wood provided for the stoves and open fires?
A. From September til May one load of logs and a supply of kindling is provided free at the beginning of your stay and more can be arranged via the Manager at local cost.

Q. Can we invite visitors over for a meal during our stay?
A. Certainly, but for security reasons please give advance notice of this to the Manager. The total number of people staying overnight in the house must not exceed fourteen.

Q. What cleaning / housekeeping / garden maintenance will take place during our stay?
A. The house will be cleaned prior to your arrival and thereafter each Friday if you are staying longer than one week. Additional cleaning during the week may be arranged with prior notice. The gardeners will do their best to limit their visits to Fridays, weather permitting.

Q. What are the arrival and departure times?
A. The Manor will be ready for you by 4pm on your day of arrival and guests are asked to vacate the house no later than 10am on the day of departure. To arrange earlier or later arrival times please speak to the Manager in advance.

Q. How quiet and tranquil is Soldon Manor?
A. The Manor is set back a little way from a very quiet country lane. There is a group of farm buildings about 200m distant on the other side of the lane, used mainly for farm storage, and as in all truly rural areas there will be occasional tractor activity in the distance.

Q. What is the policy on smoking?
A. The house is strictly non smoking.

Q. Do you allow pets?
A. Well-behaved pets are welcome by prior arrangement with the manager.

Q. Can you recommend a local caterer for special occasions?
A. Yes, please discuss this, and any other special requirement, with the Manager after booking.

Q. Can we secure the house if we go out for the day?
A. The house is extremely secure with state-of-the-art fire and burglar alarm systems which  are independently monitored. The Manager will be happy to instruct you in their use on arrival. The Manager and cleaners live very near by but will not intrude on your privacy during your stay.

Q. Is there a telephone / Internet connection in the house?
A. There is a telephone and a BT Broadband Wireless hub in the kitchen and there are telephone points in the study and second bedroom. Mobile phone reception downstairs in the house is poor but it is good upstairs and in the garden. Guests are welcome to make reasonable use of the telephone and Internet connection.

Q. Is there a TV / DVD  player, radio or CD player?
A. There is a TV / DVD player with a small selection of classic films, and a Radio/CD player.

Q. Is there ample car parking space?
A. There is car parking for at least seven cars on hard standing to the front and side of the Manor.
